Salary Range:Mesquite ISD - Compensation Plans
Shift Type: Full-Time
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Reports To: Executive Director - Special Education
  


EMPLOYMENT BEGINS: As soon as possible 



PRIMARY PURPOSE:

  • To work with both students experiencing behavioral challenges as well as model appropriate behavior intervention techniques to staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Master's Degree-Preferred
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Possess an understanding of various disabilities and special education law as well as have a strong background in behavior management techniques
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certified
  • Trained in Texas Behavior Support Initiative

EXPERIENCE:

  • Have demonstrated successful work experience with students exhibiting behavioral needs
  • Have a strong background in behavior management techniques and effective teaching strategies
  • Have experience creating and implementing behavioral intervention plans
  • Possess the necessary skills to assist staff members in the remediation of various disruptive behaviors
  • Possess strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate effective communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
 

  • Working with students who are experiencing behavioral difficulties
  • Working with teachers that are struggling in the area of classroom management
  • Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None

  • The ability to remain professional and composed in a stressful situation

Physical demands/environmental factors:

  • The ability to use Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Techniques to ensure the safety of students and staff members
