The job of Special Education Coordinator is for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established policies, procedures and/or regulations; and addressing other duties and processes required to maintain the districts’ program of services. Responsibilities include managing the district’s special education programs and services; recommending policies; acting as a liaison with other district staff, serving as a resource of information regarding special education programs and services; and ensuring that procedures are appropriate in relation to policies required by state and federal regulatory requirements. This person is also responsible for ensuring that students are receiving FAPE in the least restrictive environment. Significant time is required for analyzing data, updating programs, analyzing program use, monitoring programs/services, responding to others and consulting with program personnel.
This position would specifically support district Child Find procedures and evaluations, including oversight and creation of processes, procedures, and training for special education referrals, initial evaluation and ARDs, reevaluations, and compliance with all state and federal policies. The Child Find coordinator also serves as supervisor for evaluation team members, including educational diagnosticians and school psychologists.
Master’s degree in Education or related field from an accredited College or University
Valid Texas Educational Diagnostician certification and/or Valid TBHEC LSSP license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of Special Education Law and IDEA
Knowledge of the ARD process and ARD paperwork
Required Experience:
Minimum of three to five years’ experience with public school special education as a teacher, LSSP, or educational diagnostician
